A living, three-dimensional atmosphere, built from real observations and fed into MSFS 2024 and MSFS 2020 in real time. Smooth, continuous, zero pop-in. The modern alternative to our leading competitor.

StrataWx synthesizes a 50 × 50 micro-cell grid up to FL500. The profile reads temperature, the freezing level, winds and cloud bands at every altitude; the scope shows precipitation around you in real time, exactly what's being injected.
Ceiling, freezing level and convective risk up top; icing and turbulence bands plotted by altitude; live SIGMETs, AIRMETs and PIREPs within range. You see the flight picture the way a briefer would hand it to you.
Cloud decks with real bases, tops, coverage and density. Winds aloft at every level from the surface to the flight levels. And the raw METAR it's all anchored to, decoded and injected.
Every channel (wind, pressure, temperature, cloud opacity) is diffed against the last frame and ramped over a configurable blend, with winds smoothed as vectors. No base swaps. No altimeter spikes. No cloud decks teleporting in front of you.
Real-world weather happening right now, refreshed continuously around your aircraft from NOAA and Open-Meteo.
Replay any past instant from the ERA5 archive, 1:1 with the clock. Last Tuesday's storm is one timestamp away.
Author exact conditions: overcast at 1,200 ft, 30 kt crosswind, moderate chop, then inject instantly.
METAR, TAF and GRIB2 data fetched, parsed, cached and interpolated across a 250 NM radius.
Sparse observations become a dense 4-D field, advected with the flow around you.
Each frame diffed and ramped, winds smoothed as vectors, so motion stays continuous.
An in-sim panel writes the state into the simulator's active weather, every loop. You fly.
Same kind of real-weather engine, a fairer deal. Here's how StrataWx stacks up against the incumbent for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
Competitor figures reflect our reading of the leading MSFS 2024 real-weather engine's public store, around €24.99 + VAT, with other simulators sold separately. StrataWx is an independent product, not affiliated with or endorsed by Microsoft or any other vendor. Verify current pricing before purchase.

Yes. StrataWx is a full real-weather engine for MSFS 2024. It aggregates live NOAA and Open-Meteo data, synthesizes a three-dimensional atmosphere and injects it continuously with vector-blended, no-pop-in transitions. Compared with our leading competitor it adds historical replay of any past instant, sandbox weather authoring and a modern glass-cockpit interface, for a $29.99 one-time price with free updates forever.
StrataWx runs on both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and 2020. X-Plane support is coming. Updates to a simulator you already own are always free; adding the other simulator carries a small one-time upgrade fee, never full price.
Yes. $29.99 buys StrataWx for MSFS 2024 outright, with free updates forever. We only ever charge again if we bring StrataWx to a totally different simulator, and even then it's a small upgrade fee, never a full repurchase.
A desktop engine aggregates and synthesizes the weather, then a lightweight in-sim toolbar panel applies it to the simulator's active weather every loop, with smoothing tuned to eliminate visible pops.
The heavy lifting (data fetching and 3-D synthesis) runs in the desktop app, not the sim. The in-sim panel only applies small per-loop deltas, so the performance impact is minimal.
The desktop app is Windows x64 today, shipping as a signed installer. Broader platform support follows the sim integrations.
All sales are final. Like most digital software, StrataWx is non-refundable once purchased. If you hit a problem, email us. We'd much rather help you get it working than leave you stuck.
Press Release
An aircraft-following, multi-model weather engine for MSFS 2024 and 2020 that resolves the real atmosphere at your exact position, every moment of the flight.
StrataSim Designs today announced the general availability of StrataWx, a premium live-weather engine for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, with full support for MSFS 2020. StrataWx reads your aircraft's position continuously and injects real-world weather resolved for that exact point in space and time, so the sky you fly through reflects the atmosphere that is actually out there, not a coarse approximation of it.
Where most weather solutions hand the simulator a broad regional snapshot, StrataWx behaves like a dedicated meteorological co-pilot. It follows the airplane, looks ahead along the route, blends real station observations with a fusion of global forecast models, and renders a coherent, evolving atmosphere from the surface to the flight levels.
StrataSim Designs is an independent flight simulation studio focused on one thing: making the simulated atmosphere feel real. StrataWx is the studio's flagship product, built for the way real flights actually encounter weather. The team builds in the open, ships frequently through an automatic update channel, and treats pilot reports from the field as the most important signal in the development loop.
StrataWx is a signed Windows desktop application paired with a lightweight in-simulator panel. Together they form a real-time weather pipeline:
StrataWx is not limited to right now. Historical mode replays a past date from reanalysis data. Sandbox mode lets you author conditions by hand. Hybrid mode layers an authored sky over the live picture. Every mode runs through the same smoothing pipeline.
For virtual airlines and serious general aviation flyers, StrataWx folds weather into the dispatch workflow: a Flight Plan view with dispatch tabs and a route weather ribbon, optional route-aware weather preload, SimBrief route briefing, a generated ATIS, winds-aloft export, route file import, and historic winds export.
The simulator's native Live Weather is a solid baseline, and StrataWx respects it: when a user wants the sim to own the sky, StrataWx steps aside cleanly. But the built-in system is broad and coarse. It does not resolve the atmosphere for your precise position, it has no historical replay, no manual authoring, no hazard or turbulence modeling, no ATIS or dispatch integration, and no continuous, observation-anchored blending between stations.
For years, serious weather in the simulator meant one established add-on. We respect the road it paved. StrataWx is our answer for the current generation of the simulator: a native, modern engine that fuses multiple global models rather than relying on one, anchors temperature and pressure to the aircraft and the station the way a briefing actually works, and threads weather into flight planning. We are also honest about the platform's hard limits. No external engine, including our leading competitor, can paint discrete convective cells onto the simulator's onboard weather radar, because the simulator exposes a single global weather state to inject into. We tell you what works and what does not, and we keep pushing on everything that can be improved.
"The atmosphere is the most important character in a flight, and for too long it has been the least convincing one. StrataWx exists to fix that. We resolve the real sky for the airplane, follow it through the whole flight, and smooth every transition, so the weather stops being scenery and starts being something you fly." StrataWx is available now for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. The application is code-signed for safe installation on Windows and keeps itself current through an automatic update channel, with both stable and beta tracks.
