The X-Plane 12 build left pre-order on 4 September 2026 and went on general sale a week later. It is $40.99 direct and now listed at SimMarket as well. A separate build on a separate licence, with one capability claim and three stated limits.

All releases
Each release is a page, not an overlay: it has a URL you can cite, a date on the document, and it stays up unedited after it is issued. If a fact in an old release has since changed, the newer release says so, and the old one carries a dated note at its foot, rather than being quietly rewritten.

Where to buy
Three places, one product. A key from any of them activates the same signed build against the same licence service, and support is the same queue either way. Where you buy from a reseller, your contract of sale is with that reseller, and their terms and refund policy govern the purchase. The reseller figures were checked on 15 August 2026.

The mark is the product's identity and is licensed for coverage only: do not use it as your own logo, and do not restyle or recolour it. The name is written StrataWx, one word, capital S and capital W. The studio is StrataSim Designs. Neither is ever written WXFlow, which is an old internal name and is not current.
What we do not claim
A press room that only lists strengths makes a reviewer's job harder, not easier. These are the limits we would rather you had from us than found on your own, and they are the reason nothing above is written in superlatives.
- Injection is one global weather state. Microsoft Flight Simulator exposes no writable ambient-weather interface, so what an add-on can set is a single preset applied to the whole world, including one precipitation value. No cell geometry, meaning localised returns with a shape and a position, ever crosses into the simulator from us.
- So an onboard weather radar cannot paint our cells. Some add-on aircraft do respond to injected precipitation as a uniform intensity, which pilots have reported to us. We have not verified which internal value any particular add-on radar reads, so we do not assert it about any specific aircraft.
- Historical mode exists; we make no claim about its depth. It replays past conditions from reanalysis data. Until we have finished checking the archive's coverage ourselves, we will not put a range of dates in writing.
- Smoothing is a mechanism, not a promise of perfection. Weather changes are eased rather than switched, with deck identity tracked across updates and four user-selectable transition speeds. We do not claim zero pop-in, and we have open work on transitions.
- Wake turbulence is not shipped. There is a model and there are tests. It is not in the product, so it is not a feature.
- Windows only, for now. The desktop app is Windows x64, for MSFS and for X-Plane 12 alike. X-Plane 12 is a separate product on its own licence.

StrataWx is a real-time weather engine for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, developed and published by StrataSim Designs LLC, an independent flight simulation studio formed in Utah, United States. A signed Windows desktop application pairs with a lightweight in-simulator panel: together they read live surface observations and global upper-air model data, model a coherent atmosphere including winds aloft, temperature, cloud structure, visibility, pressure, turbulence and icing, and apply it to the running simulator, re-resolving it as the aircraft moves so the sky matches the position rather than the region.
Beyond live weather it runs historical replay, a sandbox for authored conditions, and a hybrid mode that lays real winds under a sky set by hand. It is sold once, updates free, and is available direct and through authorised resellers.
