The short version

We do not sell your data. We do not run ad networks or third-party trackers. Our website analytics sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. What we hold is what is needed to sell you a licence, keep it working, answer your support ticket, and count visitors to this site.

The data controller is StrataSim Designs LLC, a Utah limited liability company. Details on the legal page.

Purchase and licence data

When you buy, we hold your email address, your licence key, which simulators it covers, and the order reference. We need this to issue and validate your licence and to email you your key.

Payment is taken by Polar, our merchant of record, or by an authorised reseller such as SimMarket and iniBuilds where you bought from one. We never see or store your card details. Each of them processes payment under its own privacy policy.

Licence activation and app data

The app contacts our licence service so it can check your licence is valid and count device seats. That involves:

  • a machine identifier, a value generated for your installation, used to count seats and let you free one;
  • an optional machine label so you can tell your own devices apart in the portal;
  • the application version and which simulators are present, used to serve the right update and to diagnose faults;
  • basic connection timestamps;
  • the country and approximate city your internet connection resolves to.

On that last point, precisely. When the app checks in, our network edge resolves your connection to a country and, usually, to a nearby city and that city's coordinates. We keep only that area, and we do not store your IP address. The area is accurate to a city or to your provider's exchange, never to an address, and if you use a VPN it describes the VPN rather than you. We hold only the most recent area for each device and overwrite it on every check-in, so there is no location trail. We use it to understand where our customers are, which is what tells us the regions to prioritise.

When the app requests weather, the request carries the position it needs weather for. That is used to fetch and cache the forecast and is held only in a short-lived in-memory cache on the service. We do not build or store a history of where you have flown. Our diagnostic history keeps whether you were airborne, so support can follow a fault over time, and the in-sim coordinates are stripped out of it.

Support tickets

If you open a ticket we hold your email address, your message, and anything you attach. Diagnostic uploads carry application logs, which are redacted before they leave your machine and which you can review first, along with your app version and machine identifier.

New tickets are announced to a private staff channel on Discord so somebody sees them promptly. That notification carries your email address, the source of the ticket, and a truncated extract of your message with key-shaped text removed. It never carries your licence key, your attachments, or the token that secures your ticket thread.

Website analytics

We run our own analytics rather than a third-party service, on this domain. It sets no cookies and writes nothing to localStorage or sessionStorage. There is no consent banner on this site because there is nothing on your device to consent to.

For each visit we record the page URL, the referrer, any campaign tags in the link you followed, your device type, browser and operating system, your country, and named events such as opening the checkout.

How a visitor is counted, precisely. We do not store your IP address as part of the analytics record. We derive a one-way hash of your IP address, your browser user agent and the site, salted with 32 random bytes minted fresh each day and destroyed after about 48 hours. The salt is random and never derived from a secret, so once it is gone the hash cannot be recomputed or linked back to an IP address by anyone, including us.

The deliberate consequence is that a visitor identifier is only comparable within a single day. We cannot follow you across days, and we cannot follow you across sites. Where a figure covers a longer range it is a sum of daily counts, and it says so.

Email

We email you your licence, your order confirmation, support replies, and occasionally an announcement about the product you own. Announcement emails carry an unsubscribe link. Transactional email about your licence or your ticket is not marketing and is not something you can unsubscribe from while the licence is live.

Why we are allowed to hold it

  • To perform our contract with you: purchase, licence, activation, updates, support.
  • Our legitimate interests: preventing licence fraud, keeping the services stable and secure, and understanding in aggregate how the site is used. The analytics is built so that this interest does not come at the cost of tracking individuals.
  • Legal obligation: records we are required to keep, such as tax records held by our merchant of record.

Who processes it for us

We use a small number of providers, each handling data only to deliver our service:

  • Cloudflare. Hosting, edge delivery and bot protection for the site and services.
  • Neon. The database holding licence, support and analytics records.
  • Polar. Payments, as merchant of record.
  • Resend. Sending our email.
  • Discord. Private staff notification of new support tickets, as described above.

Where you bought through an authorised reseller, that reseller holds its own record of the sale under its own policy.

Weather providers receive the coordinates a forecast is requested for, and nothing identifying you.

We are a United States company, so data is processed in the United States and, where our providers operate globally, elsewhere. We do not sell or rent personal data to anybody, and we do not share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

  • Licence and purchase records: for as long as the licence exists, then as long as needed for tax and accounting.
  • Analytics salts: destroyed after about 48 hours. Aggregated counts are kept without them.
  • Support tickets: kept while useful for support history, then purged.
  • Diagnostic logs: kept only as long as needed to resolve the issue.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.

If you are in the EU, the EEA or the UK you additionally have rights to restrict or object to processing, to portability, and to complain to your local supervisory authority. If you are in California you have the rights to know, delete, correct, and to opt out of sale or sharing, which is straightforward here because we do neither.

Ask through Support from the address you bought with, and a person will handle it. We will not make you jump through hoops to leave.

One honest limit: deleting your licence record ends your ability to activate the software, because that record is what proves you bought it.

Children

StrataWx is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13, or under 16 in the EU and the UK. If you believe a child has given us data, tell us and we will remove it.

Changes

If we change this policy the current version is always the one published here, with the revision date in the document block above. A change that materially widens what we collect will be signposted rather than slipped in.
